Jutai Toonoo, COMPOSITION (SELF-PORTRAIT), 2013
COMPOSITION (SELF-PORTRAIT)
2013
Artist RegionNorth
DescriptionJutai Toonoo’s expressive self-portrait is characteristic of the artist’s approach to figurative drawings and his interest in creating works that portray the human face in a liminal or transformative state. His face and form appear to fade into the vibrantly-coloured background, the play of light and shadow giving the artist’s features a dreamlike cast. This work represents a prominent Canadian Inuit artist both visually and in terms of its relation to the themes and techniques of his other works.
