DescriptionThis work is more muted in tone than the other two Authier works in the collection, incorporating crystalline shapes into its composition. Like the titular “trap”, the viewer is lured by the light values in the upper region of the painting down into the sharper angles and darker values of the bottom right corner, creating an effect that evokes a black hole or a vortex. The use of brighter silver shades and angular forms juxtaposed with the flashes of red also evokes an actual steel trap and its effects on its victims.
